In Memory of Dr. Paul Ziter

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Paul S Ziter MD a beloved family physician, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the Windsor/Essex County community.

For 47 years, Dr. Ziter dedicated his life to caring for people, as the practice of medicine was his true vocation. Throughout an extraordinary career, he welcomed generations of families into his practice and became much more than their doctor. He was a trusted confidant, a compassionate listener, and a steady presence through some of life’s happiest and most difficult moments.

His patients knew that he genuinely cared. He took the time to listen, to reassure, and to understand the person behind the illness. Over the years, he cared for parents, their children, and eventually their grandchildren. The relationships he built with his patients were lasting and deeply personal, and many considered him not simply their physician, but a friend.

Dr. Ziter believed that being a doctor meant being part of the community. He gave generously of his time and talents to hospitals, organizations, charities, and community activities. His commitment to helping others extended well beyond the walls of his medical practice.

While medicine was an important part of his life, it was his family who brought him the greatest joy. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife of 48 years Yvette (née Pignal), his children, Nicole Hernandez (Matt), Philip Ziter (Tran Thi Vinh Sang) and (former daughter-in-law Hoang Anh Nguyen) along with Patrick Ziter (Lindsey) and his grandchildren, Emilia and Luka Hernandez, Alex and Oscar Ziter, and Penelope Ziter.

Predeceased by his father Dr Michael J Ziter, Emilia Rossi, his father-in-law Marcel Pignal and his mother-in-law Claudette Pignal.

He will be deeply missed by his mother Irene Ziter, his four siblings Dr. Michael Ziter (Ruth), Mary-Lee McWilliams (David), Dr. Dale Ziter (Cheryl), and Christine Ziter Labiak (Michael).

He will also be remembered with love by his wife’s six siblings Pierrette Grondin (Bruce), Colette Pignal, Michelle Pignal, Paul Pignal (Ann), Pierre Pignal (Bina), Giselle Marchand (Butch).

He leaves a legacy of joy and laughter in the hearts of the many nieces and nephews he loved to spoil and entertain.

Those who knew him will remember his infectious energy and his larger-than-life personality, his warm smile, uncanny sense of humour, kindness, wisdom, and patience.

His greatest legacy will not be measured by his 47 years of medical practice, but by the countless lives he touched. In doing so, he became a part of the community’s history, its families, and its heart. The space he leaves behind can never be filled, but the memories he gave us will last forever.
