In April 2012, Finance Minister Dwight Duncan created the Windsor Hospitals Study Task Force to examine the possibility and need for a new regional acute care hospital to replace current facilities. Their final report recommends moving forward immediately with planning for a new hospital.
Planning for the Windsor-Essex Hospitals System is a 5-stage process. The Program and Services Steering Committee has submitted a proposal for Stage 1A & 1B – The Master Plan - to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and has received approval to move forward with planning.
Following the completion of the site selection process, Fairness Advisor Glenn Ackerly, who monitored the process released this report stating he had no reservations or concerns about the outcome of the process from a fairness perspective. He commended the hospital and its advisors for the manner in which the process was undertaken.
This study provides estimates of the economic impact that will arise from the construction of the portfolio of projects included in the plan for the New Windsor-Essex Hospitals System.
This information, regarding site selection was released on January 6, 2016 as part of a Freedom of Information request.
