Paediatric Diabetes/ Metabolic Program

Windsor Regional Hospital’s Pediatric Metabolic Unit is an endocrinology and diabetes diagnostic, treatment and education center for children who have diabetes and other endocrine conditions including growth problems, thyroid, disease and other hormone imbalances.

The Pediatric Metabolic Unit/Diabetes Center was established in 1989 originally at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital and moved over to Windsor Regional Hospital with all Pediatric services in September 2005. The clinic serves children up to 18 years of age from Windsor and Essex County and is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals.

The Center is an active member of the Pediatric Northern Diabetes Health Network of Ontario. In addition to caring for children the unit serves as an academic placement facility for future health care professionals and a research site.

The clinic has an average of 2500 outpatient visits and educates approximately 30 to 40 newly diagnosed children/families with diabetes annually.

In order to refer a patient for evaluation, the referring physician is requested to complete a referral form and fax the form with other pertinent material to 519-985-2699.
