A Tip of Our Hat to Windsor & Essex County

WINDSOR, ON.  Hats On For Healthcare, a fundraising event benefitting the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) returns for its 9th year on March 7th.

The fun and interactive event has raised $250,000 by simply asking everyone to wear a hat and pay a ‘toonie’ for the opportunity.  Many ‘toonies’ have been donated from a vast array of organizations including KPMG, Convergent Technologies, St. Clair College, University of Windsor MBA Students, City of Windsor, Town of LaSalle, Dakkota Integrated Systems, Enwin, Greg Monforton & Partners, Herman Secondary, Essex High School, Kelcom, Manulife, RBC Commercial Centre, Rotary Club of Windsor Roseland, Shibley Righton LLP, Tecumseh Golden Age Club, The Job Shoppe, Union Gas, Walkerville Collegiate Institute, WEtech Alliance, Windsor Essex Community Foundation, Windsor Family Credit Union with many more who have signed up to participate.  Click Here to view list of Participants.

This year, Hats On For Healthcare is supporting the NICU, a regional Modified Level III Unit headed up by Medical Director, Dr. Godfrey Bacheyie.  The 20 bed/bassinet unit had 480 admissions last year, caring for infants, starting at 26 weeks gestation.  Preterm infants less than 36 weeks made up approximately 50 percent of admissions last year.  The remaining were infants with care needed for issues such as neonatal sepsis, jaundice and assisting with breathing difficulties in the first few days of life.

Events Planned at Met Campus:

  • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm - AM 800 CKLW Radio remote hosted by Lisa Williams from The Morning Drive
  • 11:00 am- Visit by NFLs Luke Willson, #82 Tight End for the Seattle Seahawks Football Team
  • 10:30 am - Donation from Ken Durocher - UNIFOR Local 2458 - $1000
  • 10:45 am - Visit by Hugh Beaton Public School children making a donation
  • Music begins at 10:15 am with Roger Boyle – 1:00 pm with George Baden and throughout the day, Julie Dragich on the piano
  • Pizza lunch for staff
  • Bake sale held by the Windsor Regional Hospital Auxiliary
  • 5:00-8:00 pm - Pasta night at Riverside Sportsmen’s Club, Riverside Drive East (and every other Wednesday throughout March 7, 14, 21 and 28)

Social media will be active with Facebook live interactions and scheduled media tours to the NICU to see infants wearing tiny hats/warming caps as part of Hats On For Healthcare.
