Straky Family Legacy Continues to Grow

Windsor, ON.  Karl Straky’s family legacy continues to grow and expand at Windsor Regional Hospital in memory of his wife, Kathleen, who passed away in July 2014.  A brief dedication ceremony renaming a newly redesigned and expanded Cardio Pulmonary Testing Lab Waiting Lounge on behalf of Kathleen Straky will take place on:

Date:               Friday, June 9, 2017
Time:              11:00 a.m.
Location:        Met Campus – Windsor Regional Hospital – 1995 Lens Avenue
                        First Floor East Presentation Area

As stated by Karl Straky, on behalf of his family, at the time of her passing, “Reflecting on Kathleen’s final two year life’s journey, she spent over 230 days in hospital being taken care of by many loving and caring health care professionals and it was our family’s wish to give back in some meaningful way to support their needs.”

At that time, the family sponsored and funded the creation of a new Pulmonary Function Testing Lab Waiting Lounge, along with funding a blanket warmer for the Cath Lab at the Ouellette Campus.

The newly redesigned Cardio Pulmonary Waiting Lounge, located on the first floor at the Met Campus, features new furnishings, television, an expanded receptionist working station, an Educational Resource Centre and wall prints depicting Kathleen’s garden in full bloom, adding comfort for patients waiting for a test procedure.

The new Educational Resource Center, provides patients with Pulmonary/Lung related information, featuring a custom video playlist program to play on the lounge TV monitor, supported by related handout literature and a website link (, all designed to help educate patients and family members to better understand their medical condition and how to take better care of themselves.

The family continues to explore projects to enhance patient and family care at Windsor Regional Hospital.
