Our Purpose

Windsor Regional Problem Gambling Services has been providing gambling specific treatment since 1994. Our services are designed to help those individuals who are experiencing gambling problems, as well as those family members and friends who are being affected by problem gambling.

Our outpatient and education services are available to residents of Windsor and Essex County, while our residential treatment services are available to residents across Ontario.

Service Description

Problem Gambling Services has three components, which include treatment, education/prevention and research.

Outpatient Treatment

  • Comprehensive Assessments, Individual counseling, Pre-Treatment Groups, Treatment Groups, Aftercare Groups, Family Workshops and Telephone counseling.

Education/Prevention

  • Problem Gambling Services provides educational presentations, workshops, seminars, and training for professionals with a related interest as well as the community at large. We also act as an information resource with a comprehensive library including Audio and Videotapes and Print Materials.

Research

  • Problem Gambling Services resource library has a comprehensive inventory of research articles from all over the world along with an up-to-date scientific journal devoted solely to Problem Gambling. Students and interested individuals can view any of this information at our location.

Residential Program

  • The residential program is a structured 21-day closed cycle.  Program components include individual and group therapy, cognitive distortions, understanding anger, change and goal setting, stress reduction, defence mechanisms, meditation, recreation/exercise, identifying and understanding feelings, communication styles, relapse prevention, art therapy and spirituality.  For more information, click here.

For the Gambler

  • Problem Gambling Services offers a full range of treatment options for those experiencing problems due to their own gambling. Services offered include individual counselling, group counselling, day treatment, residential treatment and aftercare services.

For the Family

  • At Problem Gambling Services we understand how difficult it can be when someone you love gambles. Our services for the family and friends are designed to offer support and education through individual and group counselling programs. A two-day family workshop is also offered for those interesting in developing a better understanding of gambling addiction.

Referral Guideline

  • While individuals may self- refer, referrals can also be made through family members, community agencies, physicians, employers, employee assistance programs, legal system, law enforcement, financial counselors and other related professionals.

Fees

Problem Gambling Services is funded through the Addictions Branch of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. There is no fee for residents of Ontario.
Non-Ontarians can contact our service regarding out of province fees.
