Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (Part Time)


Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Department, the R.N. is responsible for patient assessment, priority setting, implementing Emergency Department nursing care and initiation of treatment, crisis intervention and the education of both patients and their families.

The R.N. adheres to the philosophy, policies, procedures and standards of the hospital and the Emergency Department and complies with all safety procedures on safe working techniques and reports any unsafe conditions to the Manager.

The R.N. also demonstrates professionalism and participates in Quality Improvement activities of the department. The R.N. complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.

Qualifications

  • Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • BScN - preferred
  • ACLS and PALS (required or completed within 6 months of hire), BCLS - required, TNCC - preferred
  • EKG Interpretation Certificate required OR demonstrated ability to interpret EKG
  • Critical Care Certificate / Emergency Nurse Certification an asset
  • Minimum 2 years or 3000 hours of current Emergency Department experience - required
  • Current Emergency nursing experience care for all types of patients including adult, maternal and pediatric populations
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of anatomy and pathophysiology with special attention to the cardiac, respiratory and neurological systems
  • Advanced nursing skills: arrhythmia interpretation, performance of 12/15 lead EKG, administration of cardiac and vasoactive medications, care of patients with central lines and arterial lines, etc.
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving/critical thinking
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication (interdepartmental, patient/family)
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient focus and family centered care.
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to communicate in French language an asset
