Cancer Care Ontario Releases their 2011-2015 Cancer Plan
On November 23, 2010 Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) - the Ontario government's cancer care advisor, and the provincial agency responsible for continually improving cancer services - released their 2011-2015 Cancer Plan.
This is the third Cancer Plan developed since 2005. It is a roadmap for how CCO, healthcare professionals and organizations, cancer experts and the provincial government will work together to reduce the risk of Ontarians developing cancer while improving the quality of care and treatment for current and future patients.
The plan brings together the best ideas of all partners – the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, clinical and management leaders, Regional Cancer Programs, Local Health Integration Networks, family doctors, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, patients and patient groups – on how to position the cancer system in Ontario to meet the challenge of cancer over the next four years.
As Ontario’s population grows and ages, the cancer system faces new challenges. Continuing to improve survival rates for cancers, and providing care and treatment for more people who are living with cancer will require ongoing investments in capacity and infrastructure. The 2011-2015 Ontario Cancer Plan ensures our cancer system serves the changing and growing needs of Ontarians by:
The Cancer Program at Windsor Regional Hospital, which aligns with WRH's strategic priorities, will also incorporate Cancer Care Ontario's goals and objectives. This sets our path, continuing our course to realize our vision of Outstanding Care, No Exceptions, and to be the best cancer system in the world.
- helping people decrease their risk of developing cancer;
- reducing the impact of cancer through screening and early detection;
- ensuring access to the right treatment at the right time; and
- strengthening Ontario’s ability to improve cancer control through research.
