The International Association of Firefighters and Firefighters of Essex County Donation

Windsor Regional Hospital was recipient of a generous donation of $62,200 from the International Association of Firefighters and Firefighters of Essex County for the purchase of a new high-frequency oscillatory ventilation system for Critical Care/ICU at the Met Campus. The high-frequency oscillatory ventilation system is used for neonatal and adult patient populations to reduce lung injury, or to prevent further lung injury. It is often used in patients who have refractory hypoxemia that cannot be corrected by normal mechanical ventilation such as in the case in the following disease processes such as severe acute respiratory distress syndrome or acute lung injury and other oxygenation diffusion issues.

The donation was secured from the Essex County Firefighters Burn Foundation by the International Association of Firefighters Motorcycle Group District Representative, Mark Uttley. Additional funds raised by the ‘Ride 4 Darrell’ were donated to the Windsor Firefighters Benefit Fund to be used in support of the many charities in the region.

“One of our firefighters, Darrell Elwood was seriously ill last spring and required the care of the ICU Physicians, Respirologists and Nurses at Windsor Regional Hospital,” stated Mark Uttley. “He received exceptional care and we wanted to give back because the oscillator equipment was needed to assist other patients like Darrell.”
